Probably, in part, because of his decision to retire from movie-making, Oceans Eleven and Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh has decided to use some of the time he now has on his hands in order to make mash-up videos to satisfy his creative needs.

A cinematic fusion has just appeared on the Oscar-winning filmmaker's website Extension 765. The feature-length piece blends Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and Gus Van Sant's remake version together. Surprisingly, it's actually all kinds of awesome...

By far the most interesting part of Soderbergh’s experiment is the shower scene - or rather, scenes, since Soderbergh overlays the two versions. If the retired directed had wanted to be really clever, he should have flashframed in parts of that episode of The Simpsons when, after too much exposure to Itchy & Scratchy, Maggie bashes Homer in the head with a mallet and red paint gets knocked over and goes down the plughole.

This mash-up, for me, only serves as a reminder of how much better the original Hitchcock version of Psycho is. What about you guys, which version did you prefer? It's a no-brainer, right?
