The Vampire Diaries' actor Ian Somerhalder paid a personal tribute to camera assistant Sarah Jones for last week's episode of the CW show, "No Exit", by dedicating the evening's episode to her memory.
The 27-year-old tragically died in Georgia on the set of her other project, Midnight Rider, on February 20, when she was hit by a train while shooting on the tracks. She had been working on The Vampire Diaries since 2012 and sources say she was a beloved member of that closely knit crew.
Many of the show's cast members - including Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and of course Ian Somerhalder, were shocked and saddened by Sarah's untimely death. Somerhalder offered his respects via Twitter:
The kind-hearted thesp then went on to pay tribute to her memory, ahead of the latest episode's broadcast, stating that:
A very moving Facebook page has been set up in her honor. What's more, immediately after Sarah's death, Nina Dobrev - who plays Elena Gilbert in The Vampire Diaries - reached out to her millions of Twitter followers, urging them to sign the same "Slates for Sarah" petition to include Sarah in the annual 'In Memoriam' tribute ceremony during this last night's 2014 Oscars.
I'm always touched by the seeming closeness of The Vampire Diaries family and inspired by all of their efforts to not only producing a great show, but also focusing on all those involved behind-the-scenes. What do you guys think?
