Scarlett Johansson is pregnant with her first child, and this could mean big trouble for the upcoming Marvel production, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.
According to a source at E!, Scarlett is expecting her first child with her fiancé this year and is apparently already 5 months along. What does that mean for Marvel and the Black Widow? Well at least for the Captain America sequel coming out April 4th, it means absolutely nothing.
Her filming and work has all been done for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the film is surely ready to go. Marvel is known for putting some minor scenes last minute. (Ex: The LA premiered the Avengers and they were still filming after credits scenes.) It is however very unlikely that any major filming with the Black Widow is still yet to be completed for this film.
But what does this mean for the Avengers sequel due to be released on May 1st, 2015? Filming for one of Hulks rampages during Avengers 2 has already begun, and it looks amazing. Cell phone footage of trucks being flipped and blown sky high are already making their way to the internet.
If Scarlett is already 5 months along, that means her baby is due during the month of July. That, as one might assume, puts her out of commission film wise for at least another month.
Scarlett may be able to knock out some filming now before she begins to show too much, but at even only 5 months she must already be too far along to fit into her skin tight leather super suit.
Any major filming involving the Black Widow will have to be delayed to September or later, which could be tough for Marvel Studios to execute. Tough but certainly not impossible.
However tough it is for Marvel, it will certainly be more difficult on Scarlett. Not only will she have to assume the responsibilities as a new mother, but she will also have to get back into tip top shape immediately and begin filming as quickly as possible.
I personally as a fan and filmmaker believe that Marvel and Scarlett know what they are doing and are more than capable of handling anything thrown at them with ease. If anything all this means is that we might not see Black Widow double backflipping over an exploding bus during the film.
Also worthy of discussion, Marvel has announced the very high possibility of doing a Black Widow standalone film. This of course will likely be a part of Phase 3, taking place after Avengers 2. Unless Scarlett decides to go for baby #2 after the first one, I couldn't imagine anything interfering with her ability to play that role.
What do you think about her pregnancy being so close to shooting days?
Will Marvel write her pregnancy into the story lines of their films? It'd certainly be a surprise twist.
