Stage Fright makes its debut at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas this weekend - a pretty good endorsement for the upcoming horror which will be on VOD on April 3 and in theaters on May 9.
Jerome Sable follows up on his award-winning, festival favorite short, The Legend Of Beaver Dam with a feature-length musical horror which puts murder in the spotlight. I really liked Beaver Dam so this is one I'm keeping an eye out for.
From what I've heard and read, Stage Fright centers around starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson (Allie MacDonald) who aspires to follow in the footsteps of her Broadway actress mother, Kylie (Minnie Driver). Instead she finds herself working in the kitchen of a performing arts camp. In her attempt to turn things around for herself, she masquerades as a camp-goer and lands a lead role in the summer showcase play after an audition. However, her destiny is not secured quite yet. Just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and I've read that things get very dark indeed.
Meat Loaf stars as a failed Broadway producer-turned-camp director.
Wat do you think of the retro-poster? I think it's pretty awesome.
