Note : Hey guys, this is my first post here at Moviepilot and through my posts, I intend to introduce (or remind) you about some of the best movies and movie franchises ever made. Now I know that almost all of you already know or have watched these films. Nonetheless, they deserve to be hailed as long as movies last. Please pardon any mistakes that I may have made in my article as I'm just a beginner. So here you do...

“Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things..and no good thing ever dies”
-Andy Dufresne

The Shawshank Redemption (1994) is a movie directed by Frank Darabont starring Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne and Morgan Freeman as Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding. It is based on the Stephen King novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. Its not very often that you watch a movie and go “ holy shit..that was epic”. Well, The Shawshank Redemption is one such movie. You don’t deserve to call yourself as a lover of classic movies unless you've watched TSSR. It really is that good. If you are someone who regularly discuss movies with your friends or even on the internet, this particular film is bound to be mentioned at least once. My first reaction after watching it was “why didn’t I think about watching it before??? “. It is that one movie you MUST watch.

Now let’s cut to the chase. The Shawshank Redemption opens with Andy Dufresne, a banker, being sentenced to serve time in Shawshank prison for killing his wife and her lover. The story then progresses with Andy becoming friends with Red and his pals and Andy’s encounters with the prison’s “bull queer” gang, and all of this is assisted by Morgan Freeman’s narration in his beautiful voice ( admit it !!! you love his voice ). The lagging first few minutes of the movie sets the stage for the story and introduces the important characters including Warden Norton played by Bob Gunton. Andy’s life in Shawshank changes after he assists the Chief Guard in evading taxes and earns the praise of both the jail staff and inmates.

What follows is an amazing tale of suspense, humanity, hope and redemption. The Shawshank Redemption is marked with brilliant performances from Robbins, Freeman and Gunt. It shows how the prison became more than just walls to the inmates and gives us several unforgettable moments such as the parole of Brooks Hatlen ( James Whitmore ), the scene where Andy plays music for his fellow prisoners (my personal favorite), the arrival of Tommy (Gil Bellows) to Shawshank etc..to name a few. The movie then wraps up with an epic climax which is sure to blow away the mind of pretty much anyone.

So, if you haven’t watched it yet....well, better late than never.
