Liam Neeson has made a career out of shooting people, smacking thugs in the throat and making threatening phone calls. But did you know he almost did it all while in Her Majesty's Secret Service?

That's right, Liam Neeson recently revealed to The Mirror that he almost became James Bond back in the 1990s. He stated:

I was heavily courted, let’s put it that way, and I’m sure some other actors were too. It was about 18 or 19 years ago and my wife-to-be said, ‘If you play James Bond we’re not getting married’. And I had to take that on board because I did want to marry her.

He didn't reveal if he was ever formally offered the role, but after dropping out fellow Irishman Pierce Brosnan received his licence to kill in 1995's GoldenEye.

Luckily, given Neeson's recently explosion into action movies, it's not hard to imagine him as 007. I mean, if you squint at Taken you are basically watching a Bond movie...

What do you think? Are you disappointed Neeson never became Bond, or are you glad he moved onto other things. Let us know below.
