Warner Bros. has tapped Rooney Mara to play Neverland native Tiger Lily in Pan, the studio's upcoming big-budget origin tale of Peter Pan.

Variety is reporting that:

The studio took on an exhaustive search in finding the right girl to play Lily looking at other actresses such as Lupita Nyonog’o and “Blue is the Warmest Color” thesp Adele Exarchopoulos before going out to Mara for the role.

So Tiger Lily, the Native American princess of Neverland, is going to be played by someone not of Native American descent. Might this news raise a few culturally-concerned eyebrows?

Pan tells the origin story of the boy who never ages, Peter Pan. The fantasy movie will chronicle his incredible journey from an orphanage to the magical world of Neverland where he defends the natives against evil pirates, led by the fearsome Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman).

Director Joe Wright (Atonement, Hanna, Anna Karenina) will be helming the project with a script from Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift), which is to be produced by Arrow and Green Lantern's Greg Berlanti. The studio is currently looking to cast a young star as James Hook, who will play Peter's ally in their fight against Hugh Jackman's Blackbeard.

There's no doubt that I'm looking forward to the movie, but does this Pan casting kinda fly in the face of the"multi-racial/international" world that Wright is allegedly trying to create? Let me know what you think in the comment section below.
