In lieu of [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942), Writer/Director/Producer Bryan Singer has sprung some neat deetz on the next X-Men film in smash-hit series.

[X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267) will directly lead on from Days of Future Past, which means we are in for a hell of a ride.

Who is Apocalypse?

Apocalypse is ranked #3 by Marvel.com in their Top 10 Top Marvel Villains.

We're going to deal with the notion of ancient mutants - the fact they were born and existed thousands of years ago. But it'll be a contemporary movie - well, it'll take place in the '80s... The '80s is a period now - it's hard for me to believe that!
Bryan Singer - Total Film

The characters first appearance was X-Factor #5 [May 1986], and was created by writer Louise Simonson and designed by artist Jackson Guice.

Apocalypse is a mutant born 5000 years ago, and throughout his life, he would pop up in history to encourage civilisations to worship him as a god, and convincing them to fight wars, etc.

He goes into slumber, but is awaken by the arrival of the time-travelling mutant, Cable [almost a century early]. We all know that Cable will be a major part in the epic time travelling Days of Future Past film, hitting cinemas 23rd May.

It's said that the post credits will introduce the character, and will be a cliffhanger to lead on to the 2016 film. Will this be the money maker that 20th Century Fox have been waiting for? Will it beat down the Avengers Series? Maybe not. But if we are to bare witness to the destruction of the Fox's Marvel Universe, then I think it'll have the added 'POW' factor we've never seen before.

In the news, we've read that Captain America may be at the end of his rope, as far as Steve Rogers is concerned, so we will see the death of Cap in 2016, too. Superman will go up against Batman, and now... we will see the Apocalypse of the X-Men. ALL IN 2016!

Who's excited?
