Sebastian Stan a.k.a. Bucky Barnes a.k.a. the Winter Soldier a.k.a. Captain America?

In a recent interview, Newsarama spoke with actor Sebastian Stan, who will reprise his role as Bucky Barnes in the upcoming sequel to Captain America, which is now less than three weeks away. When asked about his contract with Marvel Studios and how many films he is planned to appear in, he replied, “Uh…I think…I think I actually have nine.”

Nine? Odds are, he’s exaggerating slightly, nine is a lot, but even if he has half that many films ahead, it reveals a lot about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you’re familiar with Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Comics, then you’ll know that after the events of the Marvel Civil War (Which I’m hoping is one of Marvels films in planning) Steve Rogers is shot dead, and Bucky Barnes takes up the mantle as Captain America. Now based on what Stan has said, it’s basically confirmed that Cap will die at some point in the film series, whether it be the third Captain America (2016) or Avengers 3 or whatever, he will die and Bucky will take his place, it also means that Bucky will be saved from his twisted, evil mindset that he is in during the events of [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) or a later film, so we know he’ll go back to being one of the good guys.

Also, I would not be at all surprised if he were to show up in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) next year or in Avengers 3, or who knows, maybe even the Defenders series. We’ll have to wait and see.
