Jurassic World is an adventure a few years in the making, but unfortunately the three main stars of Jurassic Park won't be coming along for the ride.
In news that is sure to crush the hopes and dreams of fans of the original movie, Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has revealed that Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern won't be returning for the dino sequel.
Speaking to IGN, Trevorrow revealed:
I know a lot of fans want to see the original characters back. They’re iconic. But I respect those actors too much to shoehorn them into this story for my own sentimental reasons. Jurassic Park isn’t about the bad luck of three people who keep getting thrown into the same situation. The only reason they’d go back to that island is if the screenwriters contrived a reason for them to go.
To borrow a phrase, "That is one big pile of shit!"
I know deep down that Trevorrow is right. Shoehorning in Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm for the sake of nostalgia is the wrong way to go, but a part of me is sad we won't get to see Grant's iconic hat and aviator sunglasses or Malcolm's sardonic one-liners.
However, there will be one character from Jurassic Park returning for the fourth installment - scientist and de-evolution expert Dr Wu (BD Wong), who'll join new cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Are you disappointed the old guard won't be back for Jurassic World?
