As you probably know, Batman has possibly the most impressive gallery of rogues in the super hero world. Varying from the great Joker to the monstrous Bane all the way to smaller villains like Hush and Mister Zsasz (Victor Zsasz). In other words, Batman's villains freakin rock. Ranging from crazy to super crazy to just plain insane, they truly are amazing villains with most having a very cool back round filled with darkness and evil and maybe some mist covering the true reason they do the horrifying things they do. They all are great. But some of these rogues seem to get much more of the fame than others do. Examples of the famed ones are of course Joker, Penguin, Bane, Scarecrow, and Ra's al Ghul. Don't get me wrong, these guys are genuinely insane and definitely formidable. But should some other foes of Batman be included as main villains. I think yes, so I am now going to list my top 5 villains who I believe are just as insane and great as the famous ones listed above.
Number 5: The Riddler (Edward Nygma)
Ya, ya, ya, I know what your thinking. The Riddler has already been featured in Batman films before. Frank Gorshey and Jim Carrey did a fantastic job playing the Riddler. Sadly, when they played as Mr. Nygma, they weren't the main villain in the movie. So this is why I think it is time to reprise the role of The Riddler and put him back into peoples memories, there's no reason not to. Edward Nygma is a very fascinating character with his riddling tactics and extreme knowledge, he is a prime candidate to have his own movie. Warner Bros actually asked Christopher Nolan if he wanted The Riddler or Bane to be the main antagonist in The Dark Night Rises, as we know, Nolan picked Bane. WB actually picked out the actor who would play The Riddler as well, Leonardo DiCaprio. But I still definitely think The Riddler would be a mint character to put back into Batman movies again.
Number 4: Dr. Hugo Strange
Hugo Strange actually is one of Batman's most famous villains but sadly the only media that has featured him is Batman and Justice League cartoons as well as Batman: Arkham City in which he is actually the main antagonist. But he has never been brought to the big screen. Honestly, I don't even see how Dr. Strange hasn't been featured in a Batman film yet because how big of a character he is in the Batman comics. But still, with his extreme smarts and fairly good hand to hand combat skills, he would be great. Another great thing to know about Strange is that he is one of the few people to deduce the identity of the elusive Batman. That fact alone could make a good movie.
Number 3: Clayface (Basil Karlo)
Clayface, or Basil Karlo (the original Clayface), is a great candidate that takes the third spot on my list. Clayface isn't as iconic as Hugo Strange but has received the very same treatment; a big character in comics, cartoons, and the stellar Batman: Arkham Series, but with no movie to show himself off in. With the ability of shape-shifting, it sure would be cool to see what he would look like in a movie. It would be great to see his fascinating story come to the big screen as well. The story goes that Basil Karlo was informed he had been ridden of his role in the movie The Terror in which he played a character called Clayface who was a murderer in the play. After hearing this news, he kills all the actors in the order they are killed in the movie. While committing these murders he is wearing his Clayface mask. In his attempt to kill his final victim, the man who plays Clayface in the movie, Batman and Robin are successful in foiling his plans and stopping the murder while capturing Karlo. While in jail, Karlo injects himself with a chemical that gives him the power to morph into clay and shape-shift that was given to him by Sondra Fuller, a fellow Clayface (there were many different Clayfaces). I think this story would be awesome to see if it came to the big screen.
Number 2: Hush (Thomas Elliot)
Hush, aka Thomas Elliot, has a very complex story too him that I think would be great, so bear with me. It starts of as Elliot being a young boy who is actually very good friends with Bruce Wayne. But he suddenly becomes very angry with Bruce and believes he shouldn't have the right to inherit his parents money. At a summer camp with Bruce, Elliot attacks a fellow camper and is put into a psychiatric ward. He later is released by an intern, who is non other than Jonathon Crane, aka Scarecrow. He then teams up with The Riddler(Edward Nygma). He does this because The Riddler was diagnosed with terminal cancer and needed to be healed. He revealed the location of one of Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pits and healed himself. But while in the pit, Nygma had an epiphany in which he realized that Batman was Bruce Wayne. When Elliot hears this, he teams up with Riddler. Teamed up now, Riddler would remind Elliot to hush and not to reveal any identities of rogues, hence the name Hush given to Elliot. The mission of this duo was to kill the Batman and actually gained the help of many villains like Joker and Scarecrow as well as some allies of Batman like Catwomen and Huntress. They reveal the location of the Batcave so Hush makes his way there to end Bruce Wayne. As the two fight, the both grow weary. At this point, Hush reveals his true identity, Thomas Elliot, and then flees. Later on, Hush gets plastic surgery in which he makes himself resemble Bruce Wayne. This story would be great to put in a movie. Hush would be the main villain with many supporting rogues mixed in there. Of course we would have Batman featured as well.
Number 1: Mister Zsasz (Victor Zsasz)
Now keep with on this one, Mister Zsasz is a truly an amazing criminal. Zsasz is in my opinion the most disgusting of the Batman rogues and here's why. When he kills someone, he scratches a tally into his body to keep count of his kills, and as you can tell above, he has killed a lot. Also, with most of his victims he will place them in life like poses after killing them to show you just how crazy he really he is. Referring to his victims as "zombies" and claims his killings are just "liberating" his victims from their pointless lives just adds on to creepiness of this guy. He is the epitome of insane. If you read a recent article titled "Batman vs Superman: An Ignored Batman Villain" by Errol Teichert, he explains a movie that I think would be awesome. He explains kind of a remake of Silence of the Lambs with Zsasz as Buffalo Bill, Joker(or another Batman villain) as Hannibal Lector, and Batman with Commissioner Gordon as Clarice Starling. I think this movie would be crazy good and very exciting. There has been talk that if Mister Zsasz was to star in his own movie, it may be rated R. I have two things to say to that. One, i'm sure Warner Bros and DC would do all they could to bring the rating down to PG-13. Secondly, if it were to be rated R, that would just allow the movie to be more gory and violent, which I don't about you but I like more violence.
So, I hope you think my list was good and worth your time. If not, comment on what Batman villains you would think better to be featured in their very own film.
