Agent Coulson's mysterious cellist lover is all set to make her debut in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and she will be played by geek-goddess, Amy Acker.
For those of you that need a reminder, Coulson's girlfriend was oft-mentioned in Joss Whedon's [The Avengers](movie:9040) as a cellist from Portland, but that is all we know about her.
Now Agent Coulson has died and been subsequently resurrected for [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.](series:722469), the time has finally come for us to learn the Cellist's true identity. We have been told that her name is Audrey, but exactly what she will bring to the table is still cloaked in mystery.
The bare bones of the official plot line have been released and it reads;
A talented musician turning heads in Portland, Audrey believes Coulson to be dead and has no idea that he's guarding her from a distance as a super-powered threat from her past reemerges
No matter what twists and turns Audrey's role takes, Whedon alum, Amy Acker is perfectly qualified for the job.
If you don't already know the actress by name, her previous collaborations with Whedon have included playing Winifred Burkle and Illyria on hit TV show Angel and Claire Saunders on Dollhouse. More recently she played the feisty heroine Beatrice in Whedon's silver screen adaption of [Much Ado About Nothing](movie:344732).
The fact that Audrey's past has attracted the attentions of a 'super-powered threat' is dripping with intrigue. Surely the actions of a mere mortal cellist could never be enough to turn evils head so spectacularly?
There have been rumors swirling around since The Avengers that the Scarlet Witch is also a cellist, and could be Coulson's Portland based girlfriend. Alas, the Scarlet Witch has never been depicted playing a cello, or having any musical leanings in the Marvel comics so this connection is almost certainly totally fabricated.
Who is gagging to learn more about the elusive Cellist? Whatever her story ends up being, I'm sure Acker is bang up for the job!
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns on Tuesday, April 1st at 8pm on ABC
