House of Cards star Kevin Spacey looks set to play two-time Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Winston Churchill, in a new biopic of the British wartime leader.
Captain of the Gate will centre on Churchill's rise to power in World War II, his opposition to parliament, and his encouragement of Britain to stand up to Hitler and his plans for world domination.
The double Oscar-winner is experiencing something of a career renaissance, with Emmy, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations for his role as less well-respected politician Francis Underwood in Netflix's House of Cards. Let's hope Spacey reveals a nicer - and more ethical - side to politics for his next career move!
Captain of the Gate's screenplay is by Ben Kaplan, who has written about US president Ronald Reagan for a History Channel film and worked on documentaries about Vietnam and the second world war. And while no director is tied to the project yet, it seems like David Fincher, who directed Spacey in House of Cards' first season, would certainly get the job done.
While we wait for any more news on the movie (it's coming, so stay close!) here's something for you guys to mull over: In 1909 Churchill attended German Army maneuvers and eventually worked closely with a German military commander in the days leading up to World War I, thus begging the question...
...Who is K̶e̶y̶s̶e̶r̶ ̶S̶ö̶z̶e̶ Kaiser Wilhelm?
I love Kevin Spacey and am happy to see him in pretty much any role, but he also has a fantastic presence about him that really lends itself well to imposing figures. It could carry over very well to this story and this historical figure. Looking forward to a Spacey-starring Churchill biopic? Who do you want to direct? Hit me up in the comment section below!
