Im excited for this which is rare since its a 'remake' of sorts or at least a Americanized version of the kick ass French original District B13 with David Belle that was shot by Luc Besson.
The story is pretty straight forward; in the criminal underworld of Detroit, the streets are overrun with the typical violence and drugs, leaving the hand of corruption reaching into the lives of everyone except that of Lino (David Belle) who's everyday is a fight to live an honest life but when a crime lord (RZA) kidnaps his girlfriend, he is forced to team up with Damien Collier (Paul Walker), an undercover cop who's been tracking this kingpins involvement in something even more sinister -- possession of a bomb that can devastate the whole city and together they uncover a trail of corruption that leads all the way to the top.
Now the action...the reason i loved the original cult classic is because its flawless use of mixed martial arts and parkour. Theres no wire work here and what you see is what you get. The same is going for [Brick Mansions](movie:957731) for the most part im thankful to say, its stayed true to its predecessor from the looks of it so far. Theres jumping out windows, jumping off roof tops, running up against walls, fist fights, weapon fights, girl fights, backflips, front flips, car chases, knee drops, explosions, guns and nothing but action going on in here so whats not to like!? Will it be fun at least? I think so.
With David Belle returning and Luc Besson as a producer, I'm feeling pretty at ease that this was actually cared for to a degree. This is Paul's last fully completed role in a film to be released and I'm glad its looking like a good one to go out on and something he enjoyed doing. Do yourself a favor and watch District B13 and if you like it at all on any level than hopefully you'll go support this as well on April 25th, Ill see you there.
