It's been ominously quiet on the front of The Walking Dead's spin-off series, lately. But now, AMC has unveiled an interesting new development for the untitled show. And I think you're gonna like it.
Sons of Anarchy scribe Dave Erickson will reportedly be co-writing and executive producing the Walking Dead spin-off companion series. Sounds like the spin-off producers are going full steam ahead towards 'edgy.' Sons of Anarchy's script is usually so gripping that anything less than the best is seen as a let-down, so I'm definitely pleased by Erickson's addition to The Walking Dead spin-off.
Other than this little tidbit, the series is something of a mystery. All we've got to go on are Robert Kirkman's words that The Walking Dead spin-off will not be a part of the AMC series, but independent of the show, which looks to mean all-new characters and storylines:
…It’s going to be set in this world, but it is a new cast and a new setting, and it’s going to be very different. It’s just exciting to be able to start over again and try to do cool stuff…
…It’s a really different location with completely different people, so we are going to see an entirely different corner of the Walking Dead world. It definitely won’t be set in Georgia, I can at least say that. It’s important to us that this show exists on its own. The spinoff has to be a show worthy of existing, or else we’ve all sold out. So that’s something we’re all working hard towards doing, and I think we can pull it off. I think that the ideal situation is, when you’re watching the spinoff, you’re like, “Wow, this is a really awesome show.” The whole other show doesn’t need to exist for this show to be cool and stand on its own.
How excited are you for this different corner of the Walking Dead world to appear on our small-screens, and what do you think about the addition of Sons of Anarchy scribe Dave Erickson? Hit me up in the comment section below!
