So was there really anything behind all that Indiana Jones speculation? Latino Review reported last week that Walking Dead head honcho Frank Darabont was looking to revisit the legendary explorer and wanted Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper for the lead role.

Feather's were ruffled across the board but now, thankfully, both Darabont and producer Frank Marshall have spoken out to put the murmurs to rest. Speaking to Ain't it Cool News, Darabont stated:

"This is an internet rumor with not a shred of truth in it. I have not pitched an idea for a proposed Indiana Jones movie, nor has anybody approached me with such an idea. The inaccurate report on Latino Review was the first I'd heard of it."

Following the quote, Marshall took to twitter to put a few more nails in the story's coffin.

The hoopla which followed the speculative piece was justifiable of course but in this day and age, was the rumor really so outlandish? Coops has been turning himself into a serious looking actor lately, picking up Oscar nominations en route for showy performances in David O Russell's two recent smashes, so this sort of return to big budget franchise fair would surely have been well timed. Darabont could be due a return to the bigger screen too having only penned one solitary movie, 2007's The Mist, in the last decade.

I guess we'll never know but whatever might have come to pass, could it really have been any worse than this...
