A year on from Steven Soderbergh's apparent retirement the director feels more present than ever. The prolific one man production team has a Clive Owen starring miniseries on Cinemax this summer; his "final" film (which only aired stateside on HBO) just enjoyed some well deserved awards buzz and he's even been tweeting a novella but now one of his most recent efforts, Magic Mike, is set to get the sequel treatment with Magic Mike XXL. The project was rumored almost two years ago but we can now report that both director and title have been confirmed with long time collaborator Greg Jacobs taking the hot seat.

Sticking to his guns, Soderbergh will stay on solely as executive producer so directing duties will go instead to his "creative partner" as The Playlist reported last weekend:

While potential helmers to take over the directing chair for the sequel included star and original co-writer Channing Tatum and co-writer/producer Reid Carolin, sources close to the camp tell The Playlist that a filmmaker has been found: Greg Jacobs. And that the title of the sequel will be "Magic Mike XXL." Look for an “official announcement” soon, but the team behind the movie has decided on their man.

The original was a strange sort of beast. Soderbergh shrewdly marketed it to set the eyelashes aflutter but the end product managed to feel almost subversive in its tone. It's believed by many to have gotten the so called McConnaissance up and running but no word yet on whether the Oscar winner will be reprising his role.

The Palme d'Or winning director enters sequel territory for just the second time here so It could all prove very interesting whenever we do get to see it.

What Soderbergh film do you think warrants a sequel? Oceans 14? More Sex, More Lies, More Videotape? Comments go below. Do tell...

Magic Mike XXL is set to shoot in the fall.
