Still think Gina Carano should've been Wonder Woman? Now is your chance to see her beat a whole tropical Island into submission in this Action, mystery, thriller from director John Stockwell (Into the Blue, Turistas). [In the Blood](movie:579340)" will draw you in to the action.
No vacation even tropical ones are ever perfect nor is this movie. That doesn't mean it wasn't enjoyable though. Imagine you're on your honeymoon just trying to enjoy yourself and suddenly there's an accident and you're being hauled away in an ambulance only to disappear. You better hope your better half is Gina Carano!
The movie begins with a young Ava (Paloma Louvat) explaining how her daddy (Stephen Lang) was an outlaw that taught her to fight and not to cry. When her father is killed she doesn't cry which helps explain her toughness and lack of emotion. Then 12 years later she has changed, met the love of her life Derek Grant (Cam Gigandet) at Narcotics Anonymous and is getting married despite the misgivings of his dad (Treat Williams) That's when the honeymoon begins.
What starts out as a combination travelogue/honeymoon video soon becomes intrigue/action when they meet Manny (Ismael Cruz Cordova) who takes them into the seedier underbelly of this island paradise. After a zipline accident Ava's husband dissapears after being taken away in an ambulance. Sending Ava on a search which is repeatedly hampered by the islands more despicable inhabitants including Police Chief Ramon Garza (Luis Guzman).
Although there are some weird holes, questionable story points, and a bit too much music. Carano is surrounded by an excellent cast of characters including Big Biz (Danny Trejo) and lots of action that keeps you involved all the way to the end. The film does an excellent job of going from the lovely island settings to the darkness which lies beneath.
I have to say I think Carano's acting is improving (she would've made a good WW) and it was good to see a strong female protagonist for a change. I enjoyed this movie which is opening in limited US release, VOD and Itunes this Friday April 4 and give it 3.5 kills out of 5 Check it out!
