…who’s the baddest witch in town?! ;) A portrait of Marie Laveau, from American Horror Story Coven (Angela Bassett). She was born in 1794 (died in 1881) and was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo renowned in New Orleans. The symbol on her hand is a “veve”, a religious symbol used in haitian voodoo. This one in particular depicts two snakes, and it’s connected to the Loa (god) Damballa, which is associated with creation, source of life, the water element and the ancestors.
