WELCOME TO YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!

Watch the entire film - HYPNAGOGIA - here.

From Norway and Violence Productions comes "HYPNAGOGIA", a brand new, 27 minutes short film about a terrifying phenomenon called "sleep paralysis". Those of you not familiar with sleep paralysis, here is the answer:

Sleep paralysis occur usually in between when you are asleep and awaken. During sleep our bodies are in a paralyzed state, so that we are not acting out our dreams and can become a danger both to ourselves and our surroundings. When you experience sleep paralysis you wake up, but your body is still paralyzed. At this time strange things start happening, like out-of-body-experiences, seeing or feeling dark creatures, ghost like apparitions or "demons" in your bedroom. Many people report being attacked by these demons/ghosts. They report it feels like a demon/ghost/dark figure is sitting on their chest, trying to strangle them or kill them. From time to time it is even reported that people are raped by these demon-like creatures. The myths of Succubus and Incubus are surely based on sleep paralysis. There are also cases where people have died during sleep paralysis, possibly killed by these entities.

Then comes the question, what is sleep paralysis and who are the creatures/beings/ghosts that attack people in sleep paralysis? Are they only "dream creatures", actual ghosts or unknown entities or something else? The answer is - we don`t know. We only know these things happen and there are no explanation for exactly what it is. That in itself makes sleep paralysis very scary. Then comes the fact that 1 out of 5 will experience sleep paralysis one or more times during their lifetime.. Have YOU experienced sleep paralysis? Then you know what I am talking about.

Ok, let`s move over to HYPNAGOGIA:

Let us talk a bit about the story first: "Johnny is a photographer, he is also a rapist and a killer. Nadia visits him to do some modeling work, but ends up being raped and killed. Johnny suffers from hypnagogia (sleep paralysis), and a girl in white tries to kill him in his dreams. But what is reality, what is dreams?"

Director Lars-Erik Lie is most known for the full feature film THE THRILL OF A KILL, which he made back in 2011. That was a bloody slasher/exploitation flick, set in the deep forests of Trysil, Norway. THE THRILL OF A KILL was made on a micro-budget of only $5000, but still got distribution by Another World Entertainment, and was released on DVD in Norway and Holland (and it will be released on DVD in USA and Canada during 2014).

HYPNAGOGIA is also a super-lowbudget-film, made for only $666 and you may think it`s not possible to make a movie for such a low amount of money. Well, it is definitely possible, and according to several horror film critics, it is possible to make a good movie for $666 as well.

This is what some of the critics have said about HYPNAGOGIA:

"-A REALLY ENTERTAINING NIGHTMARE!
Pål Frostad - Filmfront.no

"-CINEMATOGRAPHY IS FANTASTIC AND CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED WITH ONE WORD: ART!"
Aylar Von Kuklinski - Fullstendig Kaos Blogg

"IF THERE IS ONE MICROBUDGET-FILM YOU SHOULD SEE THIS YEAR, THIS IS THE ONE."
Signe Johnsen

"-HYPNAGOGIA IS QUITE A CREEPY FILM, GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS SEVERAL TIMES."
Kenneth Hansebråten - filmproducer

"-INTERESTING GENRE MIX, QUITE UNIQUE FEAT IN A NORDIC CONTEXT" Glenn Folkvord - Nordic Fantasy

"-THE VIVID COLORS MAKES YOU REMEMBER ARGENTOS "SUSPIRIA" (1977). IT IS REFRESHING TO SEE HORRORFILM THAT HAVE LIGHTS AND COLOR LIKE THAT."
Chris Calzoney Kristoffersen - Attack of the Killer Kast

The visual style (photo/lights/colors/locations) of HYPNAGOGIA are definitely inspired by films like Dario Argento`s SUSPIRIA and Mario Bava`s PLANET OF THE VAMPIRES. There is A LOT of colors in HYPNAGOGIA. Lucio Fulci`s many horrorfilms have also been a great inspiration for the film.

The music is heavily influenced by the music in John Carpenter`s THE THING, HALLOWEEN and Lucio Fulci`s CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD. Eric Hyman wrote and performed a truly epic score for the film, and Kaspar M. Jota, a Norwegian composer, made some truly unique and scary electro-music for the film.

But most of all, HYPNAGOGIA is a scary "ghostgirl-film", inspired by Japanese ghostgirl-films like THE RING and THE GRUDGE. Those looking for blood and gore must look somewhere else, HYPNAGOGIA is all about style and athmosphere, but it also have sleazy side to it, for those of you who enjoy such things.

HYPNAGOGIA was just released on Vimeo on Demand a few days ago, and I hope this information about the film will make you a bit more curious about it.
