Actor and sports fan Will Ferrell has played basketball, figure skated, and coached junior soccer on film. Now it looks like he's ready to hit the tennis courts for his next sports-themed pic. Having also played a 70's era newsman he's set to recreate one of the biggest news making tennis matches of the 1970's.
Billed as the 'The Battle of the Sexes', this was the legendary match between retired and 55 year old Bobby Riggs and then 29 year old Billy Jean King in 1973. The match was watched by 50 million viewers at the time and Riggs lost so badly there was speculation that he threw the match.
Based on Don Van Natta Jr.’s ESPN.com article, “The Match Maker: Bobby Riggs, the Mafia and the Battle of the Sexes,” It will be written by Walter Mitty scribe Steve Conrad "Matchmaker" will be produced by Chernin Entertainment along with Ferrell and Adam McKay through their Gary Sanchez Productions shingle.
