The Big Bang Theory is just about to boost its geek credentials with a special, and official endorsed, Star Wars themed episode.

The episode, entitled The Proton Transmogrification, is scheduled to air on May 1st, just before Star Wars Day on May 4. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the episode will feature Sheldon receiving visions and Jedi tuition from his childhood hero, Professor Proton (Bob Newhart).

The episode will also feature assistance from George Lucas' special effects company, Industrial Light & Magic. They have recreated Dagobah, the swampy jungle planet to which Yoda is exiled, as well as providing other props such as lightsabers. Apparently this whole thing was Lucasfilm's original idea. Co-creator Chuck Lorre told THR:

We were approached by the Lucasfilm people to do something to celebrate Star Wars Day, which was nice.

I suppose it was. As I'm sure most fans of punning will know, Star Wars Day is celebrated on May 4th, primarily so Star Wars fans can great each other with the phrase: "May the Fourth be with you". It's a joke which wears off surprisingly quickly.

Anyway, what do you think? An interesting hybrid of geek creative properties, or comedy being used to market a blockbuster movie? Let us know below.
