Stan Winston might be considered some sort of Hollywood royalty. The renowned Special Effects and Makeup guru worked on the Terminator series, Jurassic Park, Aliens and Avatar before he passed away six years ago. His work won him four Oscars and gave him arguably the most impressive special effects career of all time. But in the midst of all that Winston tried his hand at directing. The resulting film was Pumpkinhead in 1988.

As we said, Winston went on to better things but the series, as they usually do, rolled on. Now comes the news that the MPCA, who produced Pumpkinhead's three sequels, will reboot the franchise. As The Tracking Board reports:

The original PUMPKINHEAD was produced by the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group headed up by Italian producer Dino De Laurentiis. De Laurentiis went on to produce “Hannibal” and “Red Dragon.” For the rest of the franchise, the Motion Picture Corporation of America (MPCA) headed up by Brad Krevoy took the reins and is now back to produce the rebooted series. Krevoy also produced “Dumb and Dumber,” “Beverly Hills Ninja,” and “Bio-Dome.”

Even the most ardent fan will be surprised to see this one make it to cinemas but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Will you be seeking out this one or dusting off your old Punpkinhead VHS. Let us know below.
