The short answer is yes, but don't get too excited. A film is in the works, but we don't have full confirmation yet that Disney is full steam ahead on a sequel to its 2012 hit, Wreck-It Ralph.
First of all, let's talk about Henry Jackman. If you've never heard of him, then it's absolutely time for you to remedy that. Jackman is a celebrated film composer, and his work ranges from Wreck-It Ralph, X-Men: First Class and Captain Phillips all the way to the recent Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
In recent interview with Collider, Jackman was asked about whether or not he's working on Wreck-It Ralph 2, and his response was more than revealing:
I can’t tell you more, not because I’m being coy, but I believe that it is officially on the cards. I don’t know any more other than a story is indeed being written.
Just as a concept, it would be almost remiss of them not to write another one. It’s a great idea and it’s a great character.
Wreck-It Ralph was a hit with both audiences and critics for its ability to blend an original story with familiar video game icons and tropes (who didn't love seeing Q*bert and Sonic the Hedgehog in the same room?)
Of course, a sequel expands new territory for characters that admittedly spent the majority of the film in "Sugar Rush" (the Candyland turned racing game). It was a great start to a fun concept, but we're definitely ready for more.
Here's to hoping that the recent success of Frozen becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time will prompt Disney into rewarding us with another adventure in the old arcade.
