Deadline reports that screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage are rewriting New Regency’s Assassin’s Creed film. In August 2013, Scott Frank (The Wolverine) was originally announced to rewrite Michael Lesslie’s screenplay. Cooper and Collage are attached to write Ridley Scott's upcoming film, Exodus: Gods and Kings that will release later this year.

Michael Fassbender will star as the film's protagonist and produce. There were earlier reports that Daniel Espinosa (Safe House) was in talks to direct the film.

With the film going through many rewrites and still no director attached, is it possible that the film can still achieve its slated August 2015 release date? Filming is expected to begin this August.

[Assassin's Creed](movie:437814) follows the story of Desmond Miles, a bartender that accesses the memories of Assassins from historical times through a device called the Animus.
