DC and Marvel are facing off once again, except this time we're not talking about battling over comic books, we're talking about the movies! Marvel announced last summer that they would be releasing a total of three different mystery movies with three pre-set dates, the soonest date out of the trio being May 6th, 2016.
However, earlier this year Warner Bros. moved Man of Steel 2, better known as Batman vs Superman, to the same date! Marvel made it clear that they would not being moving the date just because Warner Brothers thought they could try and bully them off their movie schedule:
We’re certainly keeping the date there and we’ll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months.
This week, after the success of Winter Soldier at box office, Marvel announced that the May 6th film would indeed be Captain America 3. With this, Dan Fellman, President of domestic distribution for Warner Bros., might to be hinting that Batman vs. Superman will indeed cave in to be the studio to change it's release date.
It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16. However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for ‘Batman vs. Superman'.
Now, it may not sound like they want to be the ones to cave, but as a studio, running away from the release date right after the Captain America 3 announcement would make them look like they fear Marvel, and rightfully so! However, their approach to changing dates is much different than Marvel's.
Marvel has said they will "certainly" not be changing the date, while DC has now said they won't be changing "at this time". DC has already changed the date once, and poorly selected a movie date, as well as having only one movie in this superhero crossover franchise, compared to Marvel's 9 films. It seems like Warner will be the one to cave after all. What do you think?
