People have been buzzing about [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) making Marvel movie history, and they'd be right, but not necessarily because of plot twists and internet memes.

Captain America just pushed Marvel's domestic box office gross over $2.4 billion ($2,463,300,000 as of April 8th, 2014, to be exact). Why does this matter? Well, it's a metric crap-ton of dollars for one; two, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is officially the highest grossing film franchise in US history!

This. Why? Because you'll watch anything we make.
This. Why? Because you'll watch anything we make.

You heard me! That means Marvel Studios' nine films have grossed more than all of the Harry Potter franchise, The Lord of the Rings, Batman, Spider Man, more than Star Wars, and more than the entirety of the James Bond franchise.

Granted, this is only the US domestic box office; Harry Potter still holds the international crown with a good two-billion more than the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This also doesn't account for 3D ticket prices, or for how much prices have shot up due to inflation. Accounting for inflation, Star Wars is still king.

Gimme that .3 at the end and we'll call it even.

In spite of the sobering fact of inflation, this is still great news for Marvel, and if they really do pump out 42 new films between now and 2028 (Find out how, HERE!) then we'll have to revisit the number crunchers over at BoxOfficeMojo! Congratulations to Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, this comic book gig really got out of hand, fellas...

Thanks guys! ...but when do I get paid?

Enough talk of money neither we nor Stan (Find out why HERE) will ever see! Tell me if you think Marvel's going stale or getting better every time!
