Over the past few years, the number of T.V. shows meant for young adults and teens has sky rocketed. Every network has at least a few shows geared to the teen demographic, most of which are very popular. They range from vampire dramas to sci-fi adventures and everything in-between. Shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, [Gossip Girl](series:200842), Friday Night Lights, and [Veronica Mars](movie:891958) paved the way for today's popular YA shows, shows that are taking the nation by storm. Based on rating, views, and my personal opinion, here are the top five shows that teens and even adults are obsessing over right now.

5. Supernatural:

[Supernatural](series:200506) has been on for almost ten years now so they must be doing something right. Right? As the show closes out its ninth season and prepares for its tenth, fans and critics are left wondering: What else can Supernatural do that they haven't done before. Despite this question, Supernatural is one of the CW's longest running and most popular shows. With an average of 2.5 million people turning in each week and a seriously large and loyal fan base, Supernatural is one of those shows that people just can't stop loving.

4. Pretty Little Liars:

Based on the popular YA book series by Sara Shepard, [Pretty Little Liars ](series:201848)follows the lives of four teenage girls who are being stalked by a mysterious "A". When Pretty Little Liars premiered in 2010, there weren't as many teen drama shows out there. People of all ages flocked to ABC Family to watch PLL and millions still do every Tuesday night. Filled with just about everything, Pretty Little Liars is probably one of the top teen shows on T.V. right now.

3. Doctor Who:

There is no show out there quite like [Doctor Who](series:200668). It's been around for more than fifty years, holds several world records, and brings in millions of viewers every episode. Everything about DW is unique. The ever-changing cast, the bizarre plot, and the extreme yet amazing fans. Doctor Who is so big that the word whovian, which is the name for fans of the show, has been added to the dictionary. (I'm not kidding!) People of all ages tune in to watch the doctor travel through time and space with his companions which is why Doctor Who remains one of the most beloved shows on television.

2. The Vampire Diaries:

For the past couple of years, vampires have been all the rage. First there was our favorite blonde slayer, Buffy, then there was the Twilight franchise, and now [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853). Also based off a YA book series, TVD is a show that teens and adults have been tuning in to for almost six years. The Vampire Diaries follows the story of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and two vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder). The thing with this show is the HUGE fan following. The fans of this show get so involved and so into it and I think that is the main reason TVD is still on the air. Or maybe it has something to do with the extremely good looking cast? The world may never know.

1. The Walking Dead:

[The Walking Dead](series:201193) is one of those shows that isn't really meant for teens, but teens watch it anyway. I'm in 9th grade and I'd have to say more than half of my grade watched The Walking Dead. Because The Walking Dead entices viewers of all ages, the shows ratings skyrocket every week to sometimes over 15 million viewers! TWD also has a very loyal fan base, and the creators of the show have to be really careful over who they kill off because some people would be very annoyed if certain characters (Daryl Dixon) are killed. Season four just came to a close, breaking their record for most viewers which goes to show that The Walking Dead will be on the air for a very long time. So sit back, relax, grab some popcorn, and join the other 15 million people in watching Rick and the group survive the zombie apocalypse.
