Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries has had us teetering on the edge, and it's not just the action packed plot lines. As all us fans know, some of our favourite characters will not make it through until the end, and now there is speculation the victim might be Tyler.
Wetpaint is putting Tyler forward as a possible sacrificial lamb for a number of reasons. Sadly, they make a lot of sense. Take a look at the list below and see if you are also convinced that Mystic Falls could be be losing the hunky Michael Travino for all eternity.
1. He will be taking part in a dangerous ritual
In the official synopsis for Season 5, Episode 9 entitled 'Man on Fire' it is stated that Tyler will take part in a risky ritual. See for yourself below;
Markos enlists Sloan’s help in a ritual designed to break an ancient curse against the Travelers. Tyler is forced to play a dangerous part in the ritual, while witnessing the incredible power the Travelers now possess
Unluckily for Tyler, the Travelers' rituals don't involve dancing around a maypole or singing some hymns. They are a festival of pyromania with sinister chanting that often extends as far as setting people on fire. In short, things aren't looking great for Tyler, especially considering the title.
2. His death wouldn't leave any huge plot holes
Obviously we would be devastated to see the back of hunky Tyler, but it wouldn't devastate the show.
Tyler is a minor main character who is exactly the sort of person ripe for a TV killing. He is important enough for his death to pack some emotional clout for the viewers, but not so important that his demise will destroy the story lines and turn fans away from the franchise.
3. Over saturation of hunky sidekicks
'That's not possible!' I hear you cry, but the fact is Tyler Lockwood and Matt Donovan are essentially playing the same character role. They are reasonably disposable.
Sure, they are great characters in their own rights, but they are spending most of their time lending a caring ear in the Mystic Grill and they seem to be getting lumped together a lot. Tyler and Matt have joined an alliance together, thrown a party together and listened to all of Damon's whining together.
If one of them has to go, the likelihood is it will be Tyler. Even Katherine said that everyone likes Matt too much to kill him, and for once she is totally right.
4. No romantic ties
Obviously a TV death will have bigger shockwaves if there is a romantic partner to grieve or seek revenge, but not having a girl on the go could be Tyler's downfall. [The Vampire Diaries](series:200853) relies heavily on romantic plot lines to keep us glued to the screen and because Tyler is a lone wolf, he isn't as useful for carrying our interest. Even with that face.
So guys, what do you think? Is Tyler ripe to bite the dust or should we be allowed to lust after the hunky hybrid another day? share your theories and wails of discontent in the comments below.
