Hey all. So today we are going to talk about what direction Marvel might be going with their story arcs. We all know that they aren't going to and really for practicalities sake can't follow true comic canon. This pisses some of us comic book geeks off. Others understand that its just not realistic for them to follow the plots exactly.

I've been seeing bits of several major story arcs in the MCU already and with [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) coming soon I see clearer where they might be going. Some of this will be easy to spot while others may be a stretch.

Lets Start with the elephant in the room. Infinity Gauntlet is clearly being set up. With the introduction of 3 Infinity Gems already and a 4th in GotG, not to mention a sneak peak at the Mad Titan himself, Thanos! We are obviously seeing the Gauntlet at some point. My guess is [The Avengers 3](movie:738027), although I feel like they will need to lay some more ground work before Thanos gets his mitts on all the Gems. I'm assuming GotG will help with that.

For those that don't read the comics but enjoy the movies the aforementioned Gems grants its bearer complete mastery over one aspect of the multiverse: Time, Space, Mind, Soul, Reality, and Power. I say multiverse but i feel like Marvel will stay away from that concept. So in the MCU it will most likely just be a Universal power. We have seen the Space Gem (Tesseract), the Power Gem (The Aether) and the Mind Gem(The Gem in Loki's Staff). The fourth Gem I mentioned will be in Guardians of the Galaxy, at least it should be. If I had to guess Id say its the Soul Gem. I say this because I've heard that Adam Warlock might make an appearance (I haven't seen proof yet). If this is true then the Soul Gem makes sense since this is where his character gets some of his power. Also if you've seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier then you probably picked up on a little Easter egg. Steven Strange gets a name drop. That's right Doctor Strange is coming to the MCU! As far as I know Doctor Strange is currently holding the Soul Gem (In the Comics).

Next up; Civil War. For me this is one of the greatest story arcs ever. The government decides to pass an Act. The Act states that any person in the United States with superhuman abilities needs to register with the federal government as a "human weapon of mass destruction," reveal their true identity to the authorities, and undergo proper training. Those who sign also have the option of working for S.H.I.E.L.D., earning a salary and benefits such as those earned by other American civil servants. Characters within the superhero community split into two groups: one advocating the registration as a responsible obligation, and the other opposing the law on the grounds that it violates civil liberties and the protection that secret identities provide.

The best part for me is that Captain America, who works for the government and is the embodiment of American values is against the Act. Tony Stark on the other hand is wholeheartedly for it. How does this tie into the plots of the movies? Well in Ironman 2 we see the government trying to get Tony to give them the Armor so they can use it for their means. In the Avengers we see the council wanting Fury to keep tabs on all the Avengers. in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973) we see Steve Rogers not agreeing with SHIELDS position on what "Freedom" is. "This isn't freedom, its fear" - Steve Rogers to Nick Fury. Also this could be nothing but at the end of Cap2 we see Black Widow being grilled by Washington big-wigs. One of the big-wigs is actor Steven Culp. Its a little weird that he would do a 10 second scene, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him drafting the act and talking to Tony to have him back it.

Now we wont see a full and accurate representation of this plot line. Marvel doesn't have the rights to all the characters that are involved. With out Spiderman its just not doable. But I think it could make for a cool underlining story, if they take the general idea of a registration and have Cap and Ironman on opposite fences. It would also explain why it looks like the Hulkbusters are going to be in [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) and why we saw concept art for a Hulkbuster suit is Marvel's Assembling a Universe.

So this one is probably a little of a stretch but hear me out. We have already seen Skrull (Chitauri) and if you watch Marvel Agents of SHIELD then you've seen a Kree (blue alien). With GotG coming we will be seeing more Kree. I don't expect to much from this story line other than maybe the introduction of Mar Vell. You dont know who that is? Its the original Captain Marvel. Fanboys have been screaming for a solo Ms Marvel movie... I know, cause im one of them. Mar Vell and Carol Danvers are caught in an explosion and Mar Vell's Kree DNA gets fused with Carols Human DNA giving her powers and turning her into the badass that is Ms. Marvel.

Secret Invasion. Another really interesting story line. The story involves a long-term invasion of Earth by the alien Skrulls. Capable of shapeshifting, the Skrulls have secretly replaced many of Marvel heroes with impostors over a period of years. I don't have much to go on other than the fact that we have already seen Skrulls (Chitauri). I think it would be interesting to throw in a "Who do you trust" aspect. If they expand on this I would guess we wont see it culminate till after Avengers 3. They can use Agents of SHIELD to kick start it too. Some of the Skrulls in the comics decided they want to fight for earth after living here for so long. They could use Skye and make her origin a Skrull baby or something.

Age of Ultron. There isnt to much in terms of comic canon that leads to this. Marvel has laid some ground work though. Ironman has been using a Sentient AI called JARVIS. He also is able to control his suit with thought in [Iron Man 3](movie:24391). Add the confirmation of Ant-Man and the lack of SHIELD after the events in Cap2, I can see the military coming to Stark for a solution in the form of a robot that will never turn on its master...or will it. Id guess since Hank Pym is suppose to be old ,that he worked with Tony's father Howard. Perhaps they worked on Zola together and helped develop the tech that Tony will later perfect to create Ultron.

SECRET WARS!!!! Yeah...sorry this one isn't happening. Growing up this was one of my favorite stories. For those of you that haven't read it. Basically there is a cosmic entity called the Beyonder who observes the mainstream Marvel universe. Fascinated by the presence of superheroes on Earth and their potential, this entity chooses a group of both heroes and super villains and teleports characters against their will to "Battleworld", a planet created by the Beyonder in a distant galaxy. This world has also been stocked with alien weapons and technology. The Beyonder then declares: "I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all that you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!

Marvel can't do this story any justice without getting all their rights back. They would also need to make it a trilogy. The story is epic and has a ton of character arcs. I doubt this will ever be made. If it does and its on par with the quality of movies that Marvel is putting out right now then id probably have a seizure from so my excitement.

That's all I have. I'm sure there are plenty of plots I missed. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.
