With Captain America: The Winter Soldier's recent release delighting fans, many are wondering what is next for the other members of The Avengers.

At this point we are about midway through this incarnation of Marvel's heroes. Robert Downey Jr may not appear in another Iron Man movie (though he is contracted for Age of Ultron and another Avengers following that), and Chris Evans will star in only one more Captain America.

So might Marvel be looking for a way to neatly wrap up the involvement of these actors in the franchise?

Well if they are, there is every chance they will be doing so in apocalyptic and spectacular style in Thor 3.

There have been few concrete details release about Thor 3 - but those that have come out have been significant.

Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, has given his opinion on the third movie:

I think that in the comic book the sort of end of days, Armageddon aspect is probably the direction in which it will all head in.

And the "comic book Armageddon aspect" can only mean one thing: Ragnarok, the Norse apocalypse, and one of the most incredible story lines in the entire Thor universe.

Hemsworth is not the only one to tease Ragnarok as a potential story line. Craig Kyle, an executive produce on Thor, mentioned Yggdrasil, the cosmic tree that plays a large part in Ragnarok. He said:

The effects and woes and success of the universe are spoken through this [Yggdrasil] this living object. So, should the end of all things ever come this would probably be the first thing to fall.

And when asked directly if he was referring to Ragnarok, Kyle said:

It’s one of the bigger stories, right?

So what happens with Ragnarok? And how will it tie in with Avengers: Age of Ultron, the other Avengers movies and, potentially, the end of the contracts of Downey Jr, Evans, Hemsworth and co? Well, keep posted for an update soon and write in with your thoughts below!

Will Thor 3 see the Ragnarok storyline and the end of days?
