The long awaited sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger opened last weekend with a boom. Winter Solider capped out as the highest grossing movie for the month of April ever. This is quite an impressive feat. With most Marvel movies not opening until May at the latest, Winter Solider did excellent.
Now on to the important part, the actual movie. I not being the biggest Captain American or Scarlett Johansson fan went to the movie as a MCU fan. Some how came I out as a huge Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) fan. Johansson's opening line of the film had the entirety of the theatre having a great laugh. She opened the film on a bright note and continued to keep everyone's attention throughout the film. With a larger part in a film Black Widow/Natasha Romanov was able to build a fantastic repertoire with movie goers. The character really shined and came she came off to you as dry, witty, and sarcastic. I being a woman enjoy when film makers have the ability to make a female star shine. Enough times writers crash and burn when coming up with strong female leads especially male writers. After her performance in Winter Solider I look forward to seeing Scarlett reprise her role again in Age of Ultron and possibly a stand alone Black Widow film.
Captain American (the character) usually is a bit dry, anyone who has previous knowledge of him would know is stuck in the 1940's. I have to commend Chris Evans, he pulls off this act so well you would think he, himself was from the 1940s. Some how Cap comes off as funny without trying because of this. I personally felt that Cap always came off as one dimensional but in this film my opinion changed. Not only is Chris Evans HOT HOT HOT but he makes the fans believe he could really be Captain America. Evans has charisma! Not the Robert Downey Jr. charisma, but the innocent young man from a different time charisma. Captain America has the ladies swooning but he doesn't even realize it, that has all to do with Evans and his ability to act. I commend Marvel Studios on their great choice for an actor here.
You cannot forget Stan as the Winter Solider. What a fantastic element to the film. I long to see what is next for Barnes and Rogers with their relationship and is once again they will hopefully be pitted against each other in Captain America 3!
What Stand Alone Marvel Film do you feel Marvel Studios should produce next?
How about S.H.E.I.L.D. people? Were you all expecting that twist. How many of you tune into Marvel's Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. weekly? The film closing with it believed that S.H.E.I.L.D. is completely destroyed. Agents picks up after the events of Winter Soldier and it showed the S.H.E.I.L.D. had not yet been completely defeated. My belief is that the writers will continue to tie in Agents with the MCU films to build up to Age of Ultron. They will by my guess rebuild S.H.E.I.L.D. as much as possible on Agents and lead into Age of Ultron that way.
What are your thoughts on the film and my ideas for how they will build up S.H.E.I.L.D.? Feel free to leave you speculations I greatly enjoy reading them.
