Speculation is at critical mass today as X-Men favorite Jennifer Lawrence is currently being considered for her own solo film, at least according to [X-Men: Days Of Future Past](movie:203942) producer Lauren Shuler Donner.

And Fox isn't just considering Mystique for an Avengers-esque flurry of continuity films. Here's what Donner had to say:

I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.

Also chiming in is writer/producer Simon Kinberg of X-Men: First Class.

I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.

The only thing we know for sure, however, is that the next X-Men outing will be [X-Men: Apocalypse](movie:1194267), which will be hitting theaters in May of 2016. It will be followed by yet another Wolverine solo film the following year.

To be honest, however, most of us just really want an honest-to-goodness Deadpool movie. With Marvel perfecting their cinematic universe formula and Sony currently testing the waters with their Spider-Man properties, there's no better time for Fox to throw a hail mary for one of the richest (and cultfully beloved) comic book characters of all time.

And no, the 2009 version of Deadpool played by Ryan Reynolds doesn't count (literally at all). Either use time travel to justify a completely new Deadpool origin or just do it without any explanation at all (which would be surprisingly true to the character, anyway). Do what you need to do Fox--we'll wait right here.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past time travels into theaters, May 23.
