Richard Armitage has revealed that he believes his character in the Hobbit series, Thorin Oakenshield, could easily have become a 'mini Sauron' - if he had been the one to find the one ring rather than Bilbo.

Armitage was taking part in a Twitter Q&A with Digital Spy, in which he also revealed that the Extended Edition of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will come complete with further scenes in Mirkwood - including a confrontation between Thorin and the Elven king, with the latter in the form of a White Stag.
