Latest box-office smash hit franchise 'Divergent' is set to get the Hollywood treatment of expanding the original works. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger revealed today that like the conclusion to the Harry Potter films, and more recently the Hobbit trilogy, Veronica Roth's final 'Divergent' book 'Allegiant' will be split into two films. Taking a cool $54.6M on it's opening three days, and earning $139 million worldwide to date, it comes as no surprise that Lionsgate will seek to squeeze as much as possible from the franchise.

The studio plans to release the sequel 'Insurgent' next year, with the 'Allegiant' part 1 set to be released March 18 2016 and part 2 slated to be released March 24 2017.

How do you feel about the split?
