Ever since Marvel Studios began work on a shared cinematic universe with its heroes, there has been talks of a movie based on the Civil crossover story arc from the comics. Right along with this talk has been the opinion that such a movie could never be made because of the rights issue with the different properties.

I'm not gonna run through the entire Civil War story line because that's what Wikipedia and Marvel.com are here for. However its important to know that the X-men, Fantastic Four and Spiderman, all play important parts in the story, and since all of those characters and teams belong to studios other than marvel, theres no chance for them to be involved in a cinematic take on this story (Unless it was animated). So for this reason, people have believed that a Civil war movie couldn't be made and made well without the use of all the characters that were involved in the comic.

I am not so sure that is the case.

Marvel has more than enough characters to pull off this type of movie and they dont even have to go too much into their more obscure characters to do it.

We already know the Twins Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are coming to the MCU, so there's no reason to think that they wont be around to fight it out with the other heroes, especially since they start out as villians anyway.

Falcon is someone who would be interesting to follow during this storyline with his love for Cap against his love for his country and by extension its government

I don't know what Rhodey has been doing all this time but I think he'd make an appearance for this. Also since in the comics, it was Norman Osborn who was the Iron Patriot and took over SHIELD, the guys at Marvel might charge Col, Rhodes to be the new director and if the Avengers are on the run or disassembled, then they might put him in charge of a new Avengers Initiative, playing of the Dark Avengers source material.

He was mentioned in Cap WS and we all know he's gonna show up soon. The sorcerer supreme would be a good add in to all of this. And since they are already adding in the Scarlet Witch, magic will already be introduced to the audience. If they are on opposing sides, that could make for a great all magic fight scene.

Black Panther is a character that I believe is on his way, but since he's not a US citizen and a foreign ruler, he's not subject to the same things as the other heroes and I dont know how big a role he could play in the movie which would already be quite stacked.

I believe that Marvel Studios has enough characters and material to make a great Civil War movie.. and the foundation for it seems to already be set.

Spoilers Ahead it you haven't seen [Captain America: The Winter Soldier](movie:254973)

Just for those who dont know, the Civil War began because it was decided that all superheroes should register their identities with the government. Obviously this caused some friction and split the Super Hero community quite literally in Half. Iron Man on the side of SHIELD and the government and Captain America leading the opposition. Now in the latest Captain America movie we see the beginnings of this very plot.

In the movie, SHIELD has been infiltrated by Hydra who has created an way to track anyone they want. "Bruce Banner, Steven Strange, anyone they consider a threat" as one Hydra agent put it. And by the end of the movie Captain America and Nick Fury were underground and on the run. Even the scene where cap jumps out the window of the Triskellion and fights his way through SHIELD agents to get away is an almost panel by panel adaptation of the beginning Civil War saga.

With SHIELD dismantled, Cap underground and no other earth based marvel movie until the next Avengers film it will be interesting to see how it all unfolds, but I'm thinking that sometime after the next Avengers film we will see some Civil War action. Or maybe they will skip straight over it to the assassination of cap but I already wrote a whole article on that theory.

Let me know what you think.
