Let me clarify, I thoroughly enjoyed the first Transformers film, and wholly despised everything that followed. I thought the action in the sequels was overbaked and hollow, much like the story and acting.

Having said that, I'm going to be frank with you guys, I'm pretty excited for Transformers: Age of Extinction. Based off of the trailers the tone of the film feels different, I like the multitude of geographical venues, I can actually make out what's happening in the action scenes, what's not to like about Dinobots, and Dirk Diggler will be dropping such meme-worthy quotes as-

"Then feast on that."
"Then feast on that."

err... I mean, "I think we just found a Transformer!"

Well, thankfully for all of us hungry for some Transformers info, Entertainment Weekly just released an interview with Michael Bay in which he spills the beans on the plot. Needless to say: things go boom.

On expanding the franchise:

“It’s kind of like a new Transformers. We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one. Yeah, it’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing [the others], but that’s what it’s meant for.”

On the addition of the Dinobots, including 150 ft. long, fire-breathing Grimlock:

“I like to keep things very much in the dark. But yes, you’ll understand why they’re there when you see the movie. If you think I’m supposed to give away a lot of story points? No way! Keep it secret.”

On Gun-Face:

“Lockdown is an interesting character. He travels the galaxy, he works for somebody else. And he’s here for one person, one alien, and then he’s out of here. So he doesn’t really want to take sides. The cause and balance of the galaxy is kind of messed up when different species play with different species. And that opens up a whole other gigantic world for Transformers.”

On new mysteries and the future of the franchise:

“Lockdown’s ship has a lot of meaning that can go into other movies. There’s a lot of backstory about that ship that’s not laid out here. You’re going to see a few things where you’re like ‘What is that? And what is that?’ And you’re going to see a couple shots like, ‘Wait a minute, who are they?’ But we don’t answer those questions.”
Nice ride.
Nice ride.

I love a good mystery! Could this tie into Unicron? Is that huge ship Unicron, or at least Bay's interpretation of it? Is Gun-Face basically Silver Surfer for the Transformers universe? Can't wait to find out June 27!

Okay, now that we're clear of spoilers, I should tell you that everybody dies...

Last but not least, the guys over at TransformerWorld just dropped images for the full Hasbro line for Transformers 4. We've got Autobots, Decepticons, Dinobots, we've got 'em all! Check 'em out, and let me know in the comments if you're looking forward to this Transformers reboot/ sequel and which Transformer you're most excited to see on the big screen!

"Then feast on that." Indeed...

Transformer vote-off! Pick the coolest one!
