Despite the triptych being based on J. R. R. Tolkien's modest 300-page children's book, much has been made of Peter Jackson's decision to split the diminutive Hobbit into three movies. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had some unnecessary padding which served no purpose other than to give Elijah Wood some screen time, and those of you who have been lucky enough to catch The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will know that they managed to flesh the plot out with a (perhaps pretty unnecessary) love story - one which certainly wasn't present in the source material.
But apparently, that padding has been done damn well and welcomed by many of The Desolation of Smaug's viewers. Yes, fans of Peter Jackson's second installment in The Hobbit franchise will be pleased to learn that Orlando Bloom and Evangeline Lilly took home the award for "Best Fight" scene at the MTV Movies Awards recently! Bloom accepted the award with his usual good humor and gave a great shout-out to the talented stunt orcs.
In the movie, both Bloom and Lilly share thrilling battle scenes with grotesque, death-loving orcs. And if that scene wasn't enough for you, there's surely more to come in the third and final installment of the movie trilogy.
Anyone who has read Tolkien's The Hobbit will know that the Battle of Five Armies is a truly incredible battle scene - and one which sees some pretty heavy casualities. We'll see the Men, the Elves, the Dwarves and the Eagles, all fighting for the future of Middle-earth. I'll avoid the spoilers for those new to the series, but folks you like aren't gonna make it. If there is one thing PJ knows how to do, it's battle scenes...
Now sit back and wait until December 17, 2014 for The Hobbit: There and Back Again!
