Many have speculated the identity of the titular villain for the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight, the next installment in RockSteady's Arkham franchise. Some have theorized it to be the Jokers son, Jason Todd and even the Joker himself, but I have another Idea as to who it might be behind the mask and it might just surprise you. First off to get it out of the way for those of you who dont know, Rocksteady has already confirmed that the Joker is gone.. Dead..Kaput..Past Tense, he will not be back for this game, and despite the positive Pregnancy test that is found in the Harleys Revenge DLC for Arkham City, there will be no son of Joker..
Sorry Tim.. Jason Todd I'm not so sure, they look the same in likeness but its not enough, there is no back story or any connection to Jason Todd in the Arkham Franchise so I doubt they would bring him in at all. Others have also speculated that this could be Hush, since it was revealed that he had successfully under gone surgery to look exactly like Bruce Wayne in Arkham City but, I doubt this as well since Rocksteady has also confirmed that the Arkham Knight is a completely new villain, so I asked myself which of the various Batman rouges this could be being a huge Batman fan myself and came up with this.
Do you know who this is? This is Lincoln March, he is introduced as the C.O.O. of March Ventures, a Mayoral Candidate for Gotham City and a supporter of Bruce Wayne's plans to rebuild Gotham anew in the "Night of the Owls" story line from Snyder and Capullo's run on Batman. In the beginning of this story Lincoln is quick to befriend Bruce Wayne due to his vision of rebuilding Gotham, they share the same views and Bruce eventually accepts him as his pick for Mayor of Gotham.During Bruce's investigation of the Court of Owls, Lincoln confides to him that he believes in the Court as they are just a myth at the time, while explaining to Bruce that they have threatened his life, only to have a member of the court break in the room and attempt to kill both himself and Bruce, they survive and Lincoln is Hospitalized and later dies. While Batman is off fighting the Court as he comes closer to solving the mystery of who they are he finally finds the location of its leaders, only to show up and find them all dead poisoned at the hands of Lincoln March! who not only knows who they are but is a member! It is revealed that the Court has developed a process to give its "Talons" (men dressed as owls) as they are named super human abilities such as healing from wounds as severe as being shot in the head, to impalement, to being reanimated from the dead, and Longevity. Having gone through this process already Lincoln is discovered to be alive, and as Batman confronts him it is discovered that he is Thomas Wayne Jr. and Bruce's younger brother.
Lincoln.. I mean Thomas Jr begins to tell the tale of how when he was about 3 their mother Martha was pregnant with him, due to a car accident Thomas was born prematurely and placed in the best hospital their money could buy, which was a secret facility Martha and Thomas sr. kept private and off the books. Thomas goes onto explain that at 4 years old he made the Flower pendant that Martha can be seen wearing in the portrait of their parents above the fire place in Wayne Manor. Bruce is shocked at this revelation and begins to lose the battle, Thomas lets Bruce know that he blames them for their parents death, and because of his fear and failure to act they died, because of their deaths the foundation on which the private facilities funding was cut and because his identity was kept secret Thomas was thrown away from the world robbed of the life Bruce had, he proclaims his Hatred for him and mocks that he will kill him and take his place as the best of the Wayne children, but of course Batman is Batman and he eventually gains the upper hand and defeats Thomas. It is discovered that Martha did in fact have another child, and that the child she had was placed in a secret hospital facility of the books but Bruce is unable to obtain any DNA evidence from Thomas Jr and cannot refute whether or not Thomas is his Brother.
In the beginning of the trailer for Arkham Knight, someone is threatening the city of Gotham we know that Scarecrow is the one making the threat but if you listen to the voice before it distorts, it is clearly Kevin Conrad speaking before him, who is well recognized as the voice of Batman in the Arkham Franchise as well as the DC animated Universe, could Conrad be voicing the main villain as well? After this the trailer cuts to the voice of Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne's father explaining his last will and testament, if you haven't seen the trailer itself this is what Thomas has to say to Bruce.
"The last will and testament of the deceased, Thomas Wayne…
In the event of my death, I hereby declare that all my worldly possessions pass to my son, Bruce Wayne…
I ask that you honor the Wayne family legacy and commit yourself to the improvement of Gotham City, its institutions, and its citizens… Please be strong. You are young but destined for great things. Make the most of your opportunities. Use them to give back to a city that has given us so much, to change the lives of millions of people…
Do not be frivolous with this wealth. Please do not waste it all on fast cars, and outrageous clothes, and the pursuit of a destructive lifestyle… Invest in Gotham. Treat its people like family, watch over them, and use this money to safeguard them from forces beyond their control.
My deepest regret is I will not see you grow into the good man I know you will become. And finally, my son… I ask that you never abandon this city to fate. We have lived through dark days, and no doubt there are more to come. But it is the good and great men who stand up for Gotham when others turn and run… In death, I will love you forever.Your Father, Thomas"
Let me be the first to say that, if you've already read it... Batman has failed his father horribly and I mean no offense but Gotham is in the S#&*. So how does Thomas Wayne Jr. fit in with all of this here's my theory, due to his origin story that I explained we know that Lincoln March.. I mean Thomas dammit! was kept in a secret hospital ward off the book, so why not make Arkham that facility? with his identity kept secret no one would believe that after their parents we're murdered he was a Wayne, especially if kept in Arkham. How he survived after being abandoned as a child can be easily explained by including a flashback where Quincy Sharpe happens to stumble upon a young Thomas Wayne Jr. not having any Idea who he is, when he is old enough to speak the boy tell Sharpe who he is what he remembers about being there. Instead of believing him quincy instead keeps the boy there under psychiatric watch, where he learns from its many inmates what is needed to survive, his fighting technique and intellect from Bane or his ability to plot from the Riddler, the ideas are limitless but eventually the events of the first two games take place and Thomas breaks free from Arkham where upon searching for his identity learns that his parents are dead yet his older brother Bruce lived, Angry that his parents are gone yet not knowing how to convince his older brother of all of what has happened, so he keeps his distance. At this point he could just be as skilled as Batman, after watching long enough from a far and tracking his movements Thomas deduces that Bruce is Batman and becomes enraged. He understands why he has become Batman due to the loss of his parents and the symbolism it presents fighting crime, that which has robbed him of the people that mean most, but blames him that he took no action the night of their murders and instead giving into his fears and allowing their parents to die. This can be amplified after Thomas himself reads their fathers last will and testament. Thomas then deems Bruce a complete failure to their Families legacy and puts in motion the events of Arkham Knight by uniting its villains and causing the havoc seeing in the trailer as a disguise to his true intentions. When Thomas finally confronts Bruce he doesnt boast but angrily proclaims that he has failed Gotham, but more importantly has failed their Fathers Legacy and wishes for him, that he will kill him and take his place as the best Wayne. Hell as a plus he promises to do what Bruce as Batman could never due and finally eliminate all of Batman's rouge gallery and cleanse Gotham of the evil that make his fathers vision nothing but a dream. It is the final installment in the Arkham franchise why not go out with a bang, not to mention no one would see this coming.
