***WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST AND X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SOMETHING STAR TREK: TNG RELATED***
In a recent interview with MTV, Patrick Stewart briefly discussed being called back by Fox to appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but more importantly, he discussed his future involvement in the comic book franchise!
When asked whether he would be reprising his role of Charles Xavier for X-Men: Apocalypse:
"I don't see why not. That is one of the blessings about fantasy and science fiction, you're never really dead. I would love to come back and do some more."
One might assume he is referring to surviving X-Men: The Last Stand, but earlier in the interview Stewart discussed his Xavier's survival, illustrated in the post-credits scene of the third X-Men film. Also, Stewart said this directly in response to whether he would return for 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse.
Many surmised the entire original X-Men team would be offed in Days of Future Past, and this would seem to confirm the theory that at least Professor X (X-Senior? X-One? X-Classic?) would die before the credits roll; although, he seems open to the possibility of returning yet again.
Further supporting this notion, Mr. Stewart seemed to hint at involvement in the franchise even beyond X-Men: Apocalypse!
“And there might be something else. A little bird has whispered that there might be something X-Men related.”
He could be referring to the confirmed Wolverine project, except many had assumed Logan would be stuck within the First Class timeline post-Days of Future Past. Could he be referring to the planned X-Force film, the Mystique spin-off, or the Gambit movie? So, many possibilities!
Oh! Before I forget, he also had this to say about his involvement with Star Trek: The Next Generation:
There'll be nothing else Star Trek related.
Let me know in the comments below whether you think Stewart will survive Days of Future Past, what this mysterious X-project starring Vintage Xavier could be, and whether or not Patrick Stewart just crushed your Star Trek dreams!
