The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has not yet been released, and yet the director Marc Webb has been speaking in an interview about the shocking moment at the end of the movie and why he felt that he had to include it.

As many suspected, Peter Parker's girlfriend Gwen Stacy dies toward the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and, as Marc Webb points out, it was an event he was committed to including through-out his involvement with the Spidey reboot - and its echoes resonate throughout the film.

The first shot of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a ticking clock. Gwen Stacy (in this version) dies in a clock tower. And director Marc Webb has said that he wanted to show that even in this fictional world actions have consequences, and that for all of Spider-Man's powers he cannot prevent the passing of time.
