Let's face it - human beings have never needed help thinking up ways to be incredibly horrible to each other. Sadly, though, it seems that certain unhinged individuals focus on fictional events as a way of expressing their deep-set psychological issues.

Movies are not on trial here. These criminals were drawn to darkness, and that is on them. Take a look at these real-life crimes influenced by horror movies...

Scream (1996)

Killer's Name: Thierry Jaradin, 24

Location: Gerpinnes, Belgium

Details: Jaradin had no criminal history, yet The Guardian reports that in 2001, he stabbed his 15-year old neighbor, Alisson Cambier, 30 times after she refused his advances.

Movie Similarity: Jaradin wore the 'Ghost Face' mask from Scream during the murder, claiming that he planned everything based on Wes Craven's horror.

He then stabbed her seven times, drinking blood from the wounds. Fortunately, LA Times notes, Stellwagen survived, and Sterling was arrested.

The Collector (1965)

Killler's Name: Robert Berdella

Location: Kansas City, MO, USA

Movie Similarity: Berdella was said to have been deeply impressed by the 1965 movie The Collector, about a man who keeps a kidnapped woman in a custom-made basement.

Deliverance (1972)

Killer's Name: Albert Fentress

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY, USA

Details: Fentress lured 18-year old Paul Masters into his basement, where he tied him to a post, sodomized and tortured him. He then shot Masters in the head before cooking and eating various body parts.
