Thanos has been cast in Guardians of the Galaxy!

I had a feeling about this for quite sometime now that Thanos would indeed be in Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel, as they always do, toyed us with the idea. Dropping little hints here and there on the possibility of him showing up.

“There is an actor. I’m not sure we want to announce it yet.” - Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios

Giving Thanos has been confirmed, and there is in fact an actor portraying the "Mad Titan". The obvious questions is, who is going to play him?

It's been pretty obvious that Marvel has major plans for Thanos and have all but confirmed the Infinity Gauntlet story line. Like so many of the other iconic figures that have taken the screen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there has to be an actor attached to this character. Who though?

What actor will play Thanos?

The last time we saw Thanos was at the end of The Avengers flashing his iconic evil grin! What a lot of people fail to realize is that this wasn't just CGI. Stuntman/actor, Damion Poitier was the man behind the purple skin.

That would be just too easy though! Plus, if Mr. Poitier was indeed reprising his role as Thanos, then why not just announce it!? The only answer I have is that they have changed gears from the cameo and have found themselves a more prominent actor to portray Thanos. Who though?

Rumors of who will play Thanos

Since I don't have Mr. Feige's direct line to ask him myself, I took it to the internet to see what the rumors were. It seems that the majority believes it is someone that is already a part of the Guardians of the Galaxy cast.

That someone being Vin Diesel. That would make sense considering if there was a known actor on the set I'm sure someone would have gotten the scoop on that. Also, I'm sure Vin Diesel would like a bigger role than just saying, "I am Groot." in various tones. That just all seems too easy for Marvel, but would allow them to keep it a tight secret.

I'm not ruling out the chances of Vin Diesel become Thanos, but I still think there are other possibilities. Bare with me here, but let me throw out some other theories I have.

One being a Joss Whedon and James Gunn all-star, Nathan Fillion. Now before you start coming at me with all sorts of craziness, give me a sec. Fillion himself has hinted that he will be in Guardians at the St. Louis Wizard World Comic-con earlier this month.

“Wanting to get a part… Or maybe… did. I’m just saying maybe. Maybe you’ll be surprised. Maybe. Check the credits.” - Nathan Fillion

Is that enough info to confirm him as Thanos? No, not by a long shot. I just feel this is possible because I can't see Gunn using someone that is basically a God in the fanboy world as a random Marvel cosmic citizen. Also, it's worth mentioning that Damion Poitier was credited as "Man #1" to keep his role a secret in avengers! Could Fillion's hint at the credits mean he is the new "Man #1"?

Speaking of Damion Poitier, why not just allow this guy to reprise his role? It wouldn't be the first time Marvel brought in a rather unknown actor to play major roles (ex. Chris Pratt as Star-Lord). Sure, Pratt's IMDB profile may trump Poitier, but in actuality who ever does play Thanos will be wearing a motion capture suit. You really could throw anyone in there and have someone else do the voice. I'm saying if Poitier was good enough for the scene during the credits in The Avengers, then what has changed?

I also have a dark horse pick here, with Ron Perlman. I'm just throwing this out there, and understand I could be way off. Still, I don't think it's a bad guess at it. I can see him playing someone of the Thanos type. I mean look at that jaw line and tell me I'm wrong!

Whether it's Vin Diesel, Damion Poitier, Ron Perlman, or someone I have never heard of I can't wait to see what Marvel has in store for us with Thanos and Guardians of the Galaxy.

This is my first post for MoviePilot and I would appreciate any and all feedback that you may have. I love and look forward to interaction and discussions on my topics. Feel free to leave one here, follow me on Twitter, or head over to PlanetFanboyz where I also contribute.

If you made it to the end thanks so much for your time!
