Lucasfilm, the studio behind the upcoming Episode VII of Star Wars, has just announced the cast for the new saga. IGN graciously put together this graphic, which provides a decent snapshot of everyone who was present at the first cast photo. Read on for further details.
Let's take a close look at who made the cut!
#1 John Boyega
First up is John Boyega, a relatively unknown British-Nigerian actor who is best known for Attack the Block (2011), Imperial Dreams (2014) and My Murder (2012). If he's utilizing his British accent, can we expect him to have ties to the Empire?
Whatever the case, we do know that the 22-year-old will be the main character in the upcoming trilogy, possibly as a young Jedi.
#2 Daisy Ridley
An even more mysterious actor is the young Daisy Ridley, who has appeared in just two movies: Scrawl (2014) and Blue Season (2013).
Also British, Ridley is rumored to be the daughter of Han Solo and Leia Organa because she was seen sitting in between them in this cast photo:
Further, she definitely looks the part, and it's pretty much a guarantee that we'll get to see one or two legacies playing out from the events of Return of the Jedi.
#3 Adam Driver
Set to play the villain of the new saga is Driver, who is known for Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), Frances Ha (2012) and Lincoln (2012). Driver became famous, however, as a star on HBO's Girls.
The 30-year-old actor will make a great villain at a height of 6'3, and it was also rumored (and eventually shut down) that he would play Nightwing in a future Batman installment.
#4 Oscar Isaac
Not much is known about what kind of role 35-year-old Oscar Isaac will play in the upcoming trilogy, but it is rumored that he will have some sort of connection to Han Solo.
The Guatemalan actor is definitely a veteran in Hollywood, having starred (along with Driver) in Inside Llewyn Davis, Body of Lies (2008) and Balibo (2009). Oh, and he was also Joseph, Jesus's stepdad, in The Nativity Story (2006).
#5 Andy Serkis
It shouldn't surprise us that Gollum himself will be playing a role in the new Star Wars saga, as Serkis is famous for his excellent work in motion-capture technology.
Serkis has lended his talents to numerous successful projects, but he is best known as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as his recent work as Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011).
#6 Domhnall Gleeson
You may recognize this Irish actor as Bill Weasley from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & 2. The 30-year-old has written and acted in a variety of other films, including About Time (2013), Dredd (2012) and True Grit (2010).
As for how Gleeson will fit into the new Star Wars trilogy, my money is on him being related to Luke Skywalker, seeing as he's the only actor on this list who seems to have lighter hair.
#7 Max von Sydow
Swedish film veteran Max von Sydow will also be a frontrunner for Episode VII, but will he be Jedi mentor or Sith Lord?
Best known for his work on The Exorcist (1973), Minority Report (2002), Shutter Island (2010) and Robin Hood (2010), Sydow is now slouch when it comes to both action and drama.
But what else can we expect from the voice of Esbern from Skyrim?
These new actors will be joining some of the original cast of Star Wars, which includes Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Kenny Baker (R2D2). Along with the cast list, J.J. Abrams also announced that shooting will begin "in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
