It's no secret that many of us are beginning to experience Wolverine-fatigue, which is not even close to being Hugh Jackman's fault. That's just the result of having the same actor play the same character for 14 years.
Though he's said it before, Jackman has once again speculated that an upcoming X-Men film will indeed be his last, but which is it?
I don’t know yet. We’re talking it through. I still am very ambitious for the character. And tonally I feel like we corrected the ship with the last one. But I feel we can still go further, in a way. If I did another one I’m 99.9% sure it would be the last, so that will inform what it is for me.
The above is a quote by Jackman in an interview with SFX. The film he's referring to as being his last would be Wolverine 3, which will be released March 3, 2017.
Jackman also provided some info on which direction Fox might go in with his third solo outing as Wolverine:
Well, of course we’re looking at Old Man Logan, because that may be the only option left at this point! [laughs] We are looking at a lot of different storylines. No one has jumped out. You can tell from my answer that we’re still working it out. I’m working with Jim Mangold, which is exciting. Jim came on board The Wolverine after Darren [Aronofsky] left, so he inherited it. And of all the things that Jim can do, one of the great things he does is develop scripts. I’m excited to see what we can come up with, but I haven’t signed on signed on. I’m genuinely at that point where unless it’s better than the last one I’m not going to do it.
There you have it! At the very least, it looks like both Jackman and Fox are onboard for providing a film that will bring closure to the character of Wolverine, and it seems even Marvel wants to move on with the upcoming comic release of "Death of Wolverine."
Will "Wolverine 3" truly be Jackman's last?
