We're two episodes into the new WGN series "Salem", a new take on the infamous witch trials of the late 1600's that resulted in the deaths of nearly two dozen people, and it's time to make some comparisons.
This paranoid and shameful point in American history is so incredibly intriguing and outlandish that it has been fodder for the entertainment industry for years, with no shortage of Salem references in television and film about as far back as you can go.
"Salem", however, takes a bit of a different approach than most. This story is told as if the witches were real and, largely, from their perspective. In WGN's Salem, the witches are the ones actually orchestrating the trials. What a brilliant way to hide in plain sight.
