We may not be likely to see her in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica reboot, but Trica Helfer will still be on our screens in the near future - she's reportedly signed on the dotted line to star in SyFy'S new show Ascension.

EW are reporting that Helfer will play a "beautiful, manipulative and dangerous character named Viondra Denniger" in the six-hour event series, set aboard a starship fifty years and countless miles away from Earth.

The show, from Smallville's Phillip Levens, is set to begin November 2014, is being pitched in a similar vein to Battlestar Galactica:

“In 1963, the U.S. government launched a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship’s population to question the true nature of their mission.”

With Helfer reportedly playing "a not-so-secret power broker" aboard the ship, the show is certainly playing with some of the ideas that made Battlestar Galactica such a cult hit - though whether it will have the crossover success is another matter entirely.
