With less than 2 weeks to go until its US release, 5 new clips have been released for the upcoming Godzilla reboot.

HUGE SPOILER ALERT -- Be warned, this article contains potential spoilers for Godzilla. If you want to keep the plot and monsters in the movie a surprise then stop reading.

Godzilla is easily this summer's biggest and most anticipated blockbuster. Fans of the original Toho creation have been eagerly awaiting the return of the king of the monsters but the wait is almost over.

The folks at Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have managed to keep the details of the movie relatively secretive for quite some time. Recently however they've been unveiling more and more footage, some of which is getting very revealing. Marketing is being ramped up with five new clips being released to get us even more excited.

Clip number 1 stars Bryan Cranston as Joe Brody and Juliette Binoche as wife Sandra Brody. It's unclear exactly what is happening but you can guarantee something big is going down.

The second clip takes place sometime after the first with Joe Brody, now being held in custody by Ken Watanabe as Ichiro Serizawa and Sally Hawkins as Dr. Vivienne Graham, demanding answers for why his wife was killed and by what...

The third (and my personal favourite) clip stars David Strathairn as Admiral Stenz giving us some inside info on what MUTO is. It's been apparent for some time now that Godzilla would be facing off against other monsters thanks to trailers and some official merchandise. This is the first time the monster has been alluded to by name. So what does M.U.T.O. mean?

MUTO; Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism. However as Admiral Stentz points out "it is no longer terrestrial, it is airborne".

Is there just 1 MUTO? Well this next clip with Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Ford Brody might help answer that question.

"Aim the pointy end at the monsters, eh sarge".

Monsters - plural. Of course he could be referring to both Godzilla and MUTO but from the brief shot below from the Extended Look Trailer, it's looking more likely than not that there will be 2 MUTO for Godzilla to contend with.

The final and probably most revealing clip is of Stentz asking Serizawa asking about an 'Alpha Predator' before seeing Elizabeth Olsen as Elle Brody caught in a crossfire between two behemoths.

Those clips were awesome right? But man did they leave us with some big questions.

What is this 'Alpha Predator'? Is it the MUTO monster from referred to in clip 3? Then again alpha predator would probably refer to Godzilla since after all he is at the top of the food chain. If it is the titular monster that Stentz is referring to then does that mean he's fighting for us?

I did some searching around on the internet and found something that definitively seems to suggest that Godzilla may not actually be the main antagonist of the movie:

"Godzilla rises to restore balance"
"Godzilla rises to restore balance"

Source: (Official Godzilla website)

"...the awe-inspiring Godzilla rises to restore balance as humanity stands defenceless."

Whether Godzilla will be fighting 'for us' or just simply fighting for himself is something to be seen and to quote Serizawa "The arrogance of man is thinking that nature is in our control and not the other way around".

What do you think? Will Godzilla be the main villain of the film or more of an anti-hero of sorts? Cast your vote and leave a comment below.

Why do you think Godzilla is fighting?
