If it turns out that Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort's The Fault In Our Stars becomes a major critical success, then it might owe that to the slightly less critically successful Divergent.
The two young stars, who played brother and sister in the dystopian young adult adaptation, recently reunited for the tender romance film, [The Fault In Our Stars](movie:602185). In a recent Q&A with the film's director, Josh Boone, and original author John Green, Woodley explained how their sibling experience on Divergent was essential to their romantic performance in The Fault In Our Stars. At first she joked:
It wasn't that weird because I've always sort of wondered what it'd be like kissing my brother.
There's something really beautiful about working with someone and working with them again and again and again, because the more you get to know somebody on a personal level, the more free you feel artistically. I think that if Ansel and I hadn't known each other from Divergent, our relationship in this movie would not be what it is, because we didn't have to go through the rehearsal phase of getting to know one another, becoming comfortable with one another...
There would be times when we'd disagree, and if we didn't know each other, we might not say we disagree, because there's that politeness. We were very open with one another when something wasn't going the way we envisioned. It completely lent to these characters … Thank god we were brother and sister, and now we get to spend the next four years together, which is pretty freaking rad.
However, Elgort recently revealed that not everyone was happy to see him cast in the role of Augustus. It seemed like his casting in the widely popular teen novel resulted in quite a bit of abuse online. Hopefully his performance alongside Woodley can help silence some of that criticism.
What do you think? Did you see their performance together in Divergent? Can be translated to a romantic storyline?
