After seeing the space epic, Robert Iger addresses shareholders about strong franchise potential of Guardians!
For those anticipating the release of Marvel's [Guardians of the Galaxy](movie:424073) I have some great news. During a shareholders conference call earlier today, Robert Iger, Disney chairman and CEO, discussed the company's future endeavors, which of course includes the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. He also gave us a hint at how awesome Guardians will be!
"This August 1st, we’re looking forward to introducing the world to more fantastic Marvel storytelling, with a great cast of new characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, which we screened last week and we believe it has strong franchise potential,"
Having seen the space epic, it's music to our ears to hear that it has franchise potential. After reassuring the May 2016 release of [Captain America 3](movie:994409) , he spoke about the gigantic box office success that the movie reeled in; approaching almost $700 million in global box office.

After addressing Cap, he commented further on the approaching release of Guardians of the Galaxy;
"we've got a new film, Guardians of the Galaxy coming out August 1 in the United States this summer, which we've seen, I mentioned in my comments. We feel quite good about that too. That's a whole other Marvel realm or universe in terms of where it takes place, the characters that populate it and the stories that you can tell for those characters. So, I think, I'm not going to predict that we've got another Avengers on our hands, but that's certainly the goal."
So what do you think about the upcoming film? Will it expand into a franchise perhaps as lucrative as [The Avengers: Age Of Ultron](movie:293035) ? Or will it be another Marvel box office smash, that will at least warrant a sequel?
Something tells me no matter what, this film will be a success…
